Upcoming Free Events In Carlisle in February and March

7th February 2017

At Carlisle Taxi Hire, we’re often asked by tourists and visitors what’s on or the duration of their stay, and we always surprise them with just how many events happen in this beautiful city. When those events happen to be free entry, well, it makes many people’s minds up to go and enjoy themselves. Here is just a small selection of the free events coming up throughout February and March that the team at Carlisle Taxi Hire will be recommending to our customers.

Brampton Farmers Market – Brampton Market Place – 25th February
Run by Sustainable Brampton, the Brampton Farmers Market offers fresh and delicious local produce at highly affordable prices. Almost everything on offer is from within 50 miles of Brampton, and the market includes a variety of stalls for vegetables, free range meat, fish, eggs, cheese, cakes, jams, chutneys and honey. The stall holders are all extremely friendly and experts on their produce, so if you’re looking for that special recipe, they’ll be able to help.

Pancake Lunch – Monkhill Methodist Chapel – 25th February
If your trip to the market has left you wanting to get even more involved with the local community, and get a real experience of Carlisle, why not come along to the Pancake Lunch at Monkhill Methodist Chapel? It’s free entry and the only money you’ll have to part with is £3 per pancake you buy. There will be a selection of sweet and savoury fillings and vegetarian options, with tea and coffee included!

The money raised will go to helping the North Cumbria Methodist Circuit Project “Toilet Twinning”, which aims to provide clean water for communities in poverty overseas to drink and have basic sanitation, particularly in schools. It also funds education to help communities keep themselves healthy.

Acoustic Music Evening – Drover’s Rest – 26th February
If you’re looking for a Sunday evening of fun and great music, we suggest booking a taxi to take you to Drover’s Rest.  The Solway Band will be there, playing a number of songs based on traditional folk songs and ballads, as well as their own album based on the people of the Solway and covers of great songs from bands like Oasis and Pink Floyd.

Border Cycle Show – Crown and Mitre Hotel – 2nd-3rd March
This two day festival celebrates all things cycling, including road cycling, off-road cycling, electric cycling and kids’ cycling. With cycling becoming increasingly popular and the abundance of places to discover in Carlisle and Cumbria, the Border Cycle Show is a must. You’ll be able to pick up a load of exclusive offers, making your cycling game better than ever!

Monthly Coffee Morning – Beaumont Parish Hall – 3rd March
A monthly coffee morning is held on the 1st Friday of every month at Beaumont Parish Hall for both local residents and visitors alike. This is the perfect place to meet new people, and cyclists, walkers and dogs are all very welcome. Tea, coffee and cakes are available to purchase and the proceeds go to finding the Parish Hall and the Great North Air Ambulance. These coffee mornings have previously raised more than £100 each for the British Red Cross, Carlisle Mencap, Carlisle and North Lakeland Hospice at Home and Animals’ Refuse at Wetheral.

Carlisle Famers Market – Carlisle City Centre – 4th March
If you can’t make the Brampton Farmers Market, why not come and take a look around Carlisle Farmers Market instead? You’ll find a wide range of local produce to buy from within a 5 mile radius of Carlisle, such as meat, fish, eggs, cheese, bread, cakes, jams, chutneys, honey and vegetables. Carlisle Farmers Market is also a social event where you can talk to knowledgeable stall holders about creating something special with your purchases.

The Local Food Show – Borderway Exhibition Centre – 23rd March
Carlisle, Cumbria and the surrounding areas have the UK’s most vibrant food scene, making us a haven for foodies from around the world. The Local Food Show is being supported and sponsored by a number of organisations such as the University of Cumbria, The Lakes Hamper Company, Carlisle City Council, Bendles Solicitors, Nestle Dalton, In Stock, Armstrong Watson and McVitie’s amongst others.

You’ll have the chance to sample a wide range of the exceptional food produced in Carlisle and Cumbria, and there will be a range of masterclasses for you to take part in throughout the course of the day. Whether you’re in the food industry or you just love your food, we can heartily recommend coming along to this!
